Cindy spent the last four years as a customer service representative at a manufacturing company.  She has always done well in her job and became close friends with some of her co-workers.  When the customer service manager announced he would be retiring at the end of the year, Cindy was very excited to know that she was being considered for the job.    She has never had any training in management but she knows the processes and is confident she can do a good job. Lucky for Cindy, she got the promotion and will be starting in two weeks.  Suddenly she is terrified.   She worries about her friendships, and does not want be seen as playing favorites.   She wants to be taken seriously and is not sure how to transition from co-worker to boss.

  • What can Cindy do to improve her comfort level when she starts her new job?
  • Should Cindy discuss her concerns with her friends?
  • What kind of training should Cindy participate in?
